      Spumante Brut Torbato Alghero DOC
    • Torbato is the name of the rare and precious vine, rediscovered and enhanced by Sella & Mosca in years of work. From this grape, which grows on soils rich in limestone of ancient marine origin, the historic Sardinian company produces a sparkling wine of great pleasure. The harvest is carefully carried out to select only those grapes that guarantee the right natural acidity. In the winery, the grapes are processed at low temperature, in full respect of the finest aromas. The long stay on the lees at the end of fermentation gives this brut an aristocratic character, as well as a fine perlage and a surprising aromatic intensity. Bright and brilliant straw yellow in colour, it has aromas ranging from acacia flowers and pink grapefruit to yeast and bread crust. In the mouth it is pleasantly savoury, creamy and full. Proposed as an aperitif at the beginning of the evening, it has only one flaw. It tends to monopolize the scene. Hard to abandon it and move on to another wine. It's best to be prepared and keep a generous supply already in the fridge.

The history of the Sella Mosca estate, which today can count on about 650 hectares of Mediterranean scrub and vineyards, and is one of the largest in Europe, began more than a century ago. We are in Alghero and, nodding at the famous song by Giuni Russo, we are in the company of a foreigner. Or rather of two foreigners, two adventurous Piedmontese guys, the engineer Sella and the lawyer Mosca who, in love with the uncultivated nature of the place, decided to give life to a new visionary project. So it was that in 1899 the reclamation works began to free the soils from the rock and give them a new life. It was a huge task that led to the birth of a real village. In the heart of the estate, the yard for the grafting and forcing of the vines, the cellars, the dwellings for the workers, the primary school and even a small church. Times have obviously changed. But here, today as in the past, Sella Mosca wines come to life.
