The La Faya vineyard, replanted in 1997, covers about one hectare and is located in Carterìa, a small hamlet in the commune of Teglio. We are at about 550 metres above sea level, within the Valgella sub-zone in Valtellina. The pedoclimatic peculiarities present in this area suggested to Sandro Fay to start an experimentation to create a new unusual red wine for the region. In this La Faya, Terrazze Retiche di Sondrio IGT, in fact, Nebbiolo, or rather Chiavennasca, Merlot and Syrah coexist. Harvesting begins at the end of September and continues until mid-October to wait for the later variety to reach perfect maturity. Vinification takes place in steel tanks, while for the subsequent malolactic fermentation and maturation the wine is moved to small 500-litre oak casks for a period of about 12 months. Intense ruby red colour with orange highlights, the nose reveals notes of red fruits, with spicy and floral nuances. In the mouth it is enveloping and intriguing, elegant and with an excellent structure. A red wine with great character, it demands a tasty pairing. Excellent with meat dishes, including game, preferably stewed.
