The Sassella area is one of the most beautiful in the entire Valtellina. Just under 120 hectares of terraced vineyards on rocky soils particularly rich in iron. We are between 300 metres above sea level, with vineyards that extend to more than 600 metres. 100% Chiavennasca maturing on the sunny south-facing vineyards, this wine is the result of a traditional vinification process, with a long maceration phase on the skins to allow the complete extraction of colour and ripe tannins. For the maturation phase, in this case the Rainoldi winemaker foresees a passage of no less than 20 months in oak barrels of 25 and 56 hectolitres. The result is a beautiful wine characterised by a ruby red colour, with delicate and fine aromas reminiscent of ripe red fruit, sweet spices and slightly wilted flowers. In the mouth, then, a pleasantly harmonious and velvety wine is revealed. An extremely enjoyable wine that does not disdain a classic combination with white and red meats. For lovers of local food pairings, this red wine goes well with the classic pizzocheri, but if you want to exaggerate and risk some unconventional combinations, it can even be served with stewed fish.
Aldo Rainoldi began his profession as a wine merchant in Chiuro, in the heart of the Valtellina, in 1925. We are living in a dark period. A time when those who could leave the valley to seek their fortune elsewhere. There is no work and life is definitely hard. Fortunately, Aldo's fortunes seemed to be going in a different direction, so much so that in the mid-1950s his son Giuseppe decided to join him in the family business. The turning point came when the decision was made to stop buying wine and buy grapes directly to produce it according to one's own taste. This was also the moment when they began to sell the wine in bottles and no longer in chestnut barrels. The direct consequence was an expansion of the market, first in Italy and then abroad. At the end of the 1990s, a new Aldo joined the company. He is the grandson of Giuseppe, in the sign of family continuity. Today Rainoldi is one of the most appreciated wine cellars in Valtellina.
