If Pinot Noir is considered to be one of the noblest grape varieties, it is certainly due to the fact that it is cultivated in various parts of the world, but only in a few well-defined regions does it achieve high quality levels. In Italy, one of the areas historically most vocated to the cultivation of this vine is undoubtedly the Oltrepò pavese, where this very noble vine of French origin gives life to red, rosé and white wines, still and sparkling. It reveals, in other words, all its versatility. In this case, for example, Losito & Guarini proposes a super pleasant bubbly, 100% Pinot Noir, vinified in Rosé. Its name is Lebollé, IGT Provincia di Pavia, from vineyards, it is nice to remember, that lie exactly around the 45th parallel, i.e. the same distance between the pole and the equator. Harvested by hand, in the cellar the grapes undergo soft pressing followed by fermentation with selected yeasts at a controlled temperature. Sparkling according to the Charmat method, in autoclaves, during the ageing phase the wine undergoes numerous analytical controls to ensure its integrity. The result is a fresh rosé with a fine and persistent perlage. The nose is complex and intense, pleasantly fruity, with hints of cherry and strawberry. A well-balanced wine, characterised by a dry and fresh taste. Excellent as an aperitif, it also accompanies savoury pies, raw fish and white meats with ease.
That of Losito & Guarini is a beautiful, all-Italian story. It began back in 1910 when a very young Domenico Losito left Trani in search of fortune. He arrived in Seveso, north of Milan, where a few years later he opened an osteria. He sold, of course, wine by the glass, in this case served in the typical 'scüdela', accompanied by the specialities cooked by his wife. From one goal to the next, Domenico's business grows and prospers, and from the initial osteria he moves on to a small enterprise that also sells wine at home alongside the restaurant business. And so it came to 1968, when Luisa, Domenico's niece and Michele's daughter, married Mr Guarini, also of Apulian origin, who sold wine wholesale in Como. Losito & Guarini at that point was ready to make the great leap in quality, thanks to the construction of new and more modern bottling plants. In the 1990s, the new generations, represented by Davide and Renato, were also involved in the family business and a new office was opened in Oltrepò. Today, Losito & Guarini produces around 25 million bottles a year, winning numerous awards from national and international wine and food critics.
