Bottled by Laurent-Perrier, 32 Avenue de Champagne - 51150 Tours-sur-Marne, France
Champagne of great finesse and beautiful freshness that comes from only the best grapes harvested by Laurent-Perrier, and expertly crafted through long cellar aging before disgorging. This, in essence, is La Cuvée, Champagne Brut. But let's start with the blend, which in this case, as typical for the Maison, includes a large proportion of Chardonnay. Over 50%. To which Pinot Noir, 30 to 35 percent, and Meunier for the remainder is added. As with all "non-vintage," a certain percentage of the wines used in making the cuvée come from the Maison's reserves. In this specific case, the proportion of wines from previous vintages varies from a minimum of 15 to a maximum of 30 percent, depending on the vintage. The choice of a high percentage of Chardonnay is the basis of Laurent-Perrier's style and personality. After blending, the wine is bottled for frothing and is aged on its lees for no less than 4 years in the cellar. After disgorgement, then, the Champagne is finished with a low dosage that enhances its balance and freshness. In the glass, it is a refined pale gold color, with a particularly fine perlage that feeds a rich, very persistent foam. The nose is delicate, with aromas of fresh citrus and white flowers. As the minutes pass, however, it also reveals itself to be a particularly complex wine, with notes of ripe sweet fruit and a subtle hint of yeast and bread crust. In the mouth it is balanced and very fresh. A Champagne of great pleasantness that can be appreciated on a thousand occasions. Perfect for an aperitif, the maison's technicians also suggest it in combination with delicate white meat and fish dishes. Great with a fresh salmon or tuna tartare.
The origins of Maison Laurent-Perrier go all the way back to 1812, when the winery was founded by André Michel Pierlot in Tours-sur-Marne. The turning point in the history of the Maison, however, came a few years later, in 1881, when Eugene Laurent, Pierlot's cellar master, took over the winery with his wife Mathilde Emilie Perrier. Then, after World War II, Bernard de Nonancourt arrived at the helm of the Maison, and decided to increase production to expand distribution of the fine Champagnes to more than 140 countries. Today Maison Laurent-Perrier is led by Bernard's daughters, Alexandra Pereyre de Nonancourt and Stéphanie Meneux de Nonancourt, along with Stephane Dalyac and Michel Fauconnet, the latter currently Chef de Cave. Today the historic Maison can count on about 150 hectares of vineyards and is distinguished by a special and unique style. Each plot is harvested and vinified separately. Maison Laurent-Perrier, since the 1950s, has been processing each batch strictly in temperature-controlled steel. In this way it manages to keep the freshness and aromatic complexity of the starting fruit intact and unaltered. And fans everywhere are grateful to him.
