The Bordeaux Rouge Supérieur Cuvée Edouard from Château Rioublanc is a typical red wine from the Bordeaux region, famous throughout the world for its structured and refined reds. Located in the municipality of Saint-Ciers-d'Abzac, north-east of Bordeaux, Château Rioublanc stands on a plateau of clay and silica, with ferrous inclusions that give the wines a unique structure and unmistakable elegance. This corner of France, less well known than other areas of Bordeaux, is a real hidden gem, where the vineyards extend between woods and small streams, creating a microclimate ideal for viticulture. This wine is a blend of two grape varieties: Merlot (67%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (33%). Whereas the former gives roundness and notes of red fruits, the Cabernet adds structure, tannins and aromas of black fruits and spices. It is no coincidence that the so-called ‘Bordeaux blend’ is known throughout the world for its quality and perfect balance. The production of Cuvée Edouard is attentive and respectful of the characteristics of the grapes. The extraction of tannins and aromas is done delicately, to avoid obtaining a wine that is too powerful and to maintain a fruity and harmonious profile. The pressing is gentle, and the ageing in wood is brief, so as not to mask the fruity scents but to enhance the complexity and balance of the wine. Deep garnet colour, the nose is intense and enveloping, with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, spices such as pepper and liquorice, and a touch of vanilla. In the mouth, black fruits, liquorice and cocoa are perceived, with a perfect balance between roundness and tannins. The finish is long and pleasant. It goes well with meat dishes such as roasts, braised or grilled meats, but it is also excellent with aged cheeses. One last curiosity: the name ‘Cuvée Edouard’ pays homage to a historical figure linked to the owner family, adding a touch of tradition and personality to this wine.
