    • Vinification Harvest takes place in the second and third week of October. The grapes are harvested manually. Vinification takes place after selection of the best grapes, and involves destemming and contact of the skins with the must for about 15 days at a controlled temperature of 18-20°C, after cold pre-maceration at 8°C for 5 days, to obtain a must that is richer in the noble components of the skins, particularly aromatic ones, typical of the grape of origin. During the period of contact of the must with the skins, periodic pumping-over and delestages are carried out, allowing the skins to be completely mixed with the must so as to have a fractioned and optimal extraction of all components. Once the alcoholic fermentation and extraction phase is complete, the wine obtained is separated from the skins by soft pressing and racked into steel tanks for subsequent malolactic fermentation. After subsequent racking to allow natural stability and clarification, the wine is bottled and refined in the bottle before being released for consumption.

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC "Orsetto Oro" 2021
    • Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC, Orsetto Oro is one of the good wines of the region from Casal Thaulero. Made from 100% Montepulciano grapes, this grape variety, indigenous to central Italy, gives excellent results especially in Abruzzo, where it is used to produce both young, fruity wines and more structured wines suitable for ageing. Basically, Montepulciano produces wines with good body, soft tannins and a nice fruity profile. Like this Orsetto Oro, which stands out for its beautiful deep red colour and ethereal, complex aroma with hints of black cherry and berries. In the mouth it reveals a beautiful structure. Round, elegant, full-bodied and velvety, with a pleasantly spicy finish. At the table it is perfect with dishes rich in flavour, such as first courses dressed with meat sauce, roasts, grilled meats, game and cheeses. An excellent example of what the Montepulciano grape can offer.

Casal Thaulero represents a symbol of oenological excellence and long tradition, capable of conveying the history and beauty of Abruzzo through its wines. The winery boasts an ancient and fascinating history. Its name, for example, comes from the locality of Casal Thaulero, situated between the hills of Abruzzo and the Adriatic Sea. It was here that the Thaulero family, of military origin and from Hamburg, lived. They settled in Abruzzi in the 16th century and received a direct mandate from Charles V to oversee the area and, thanks to the work of Giovanni Thaulero, became the forerunners of viticulture in Abruzzi. Giovanni, in fact, wrote numerous treatises on viticulture and experimented with avant-garde agricultural techniques, planting modern vines and restoring his estates. This passion inspired a number of vine growers to unite and, in 1961, a cooperative winery was born, with the aim of producing and exporting Abruzzi wines to the world. Casal Thaulero was the first Abruzzi cooperative to bottle and export DOC wines to NAFTA countries, back in 1968. Since 2005, the winery has moved to new premises in the city of Ortona. Here, the winemaking tradition of Abruzzo continues to be cultivated with the same passion and commitment as always.
