      Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC 2021
    • Belonging to the so-called ‘Linea Varietale’ (Varietal Line) of Nododivino, this Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC is a wine that embodies the essence of Abruzzo. Located in Ortona, in the province of Chieti, Nododivino takes full advantage of the peculiarities of its beautiful territory to offer, once again, a wine of great character and authenticity. A city characterised by a thousand-year history and a strong wine-making tradition, the hills surrounding Ortona have mainly clayey soil that offers ideal conditions for growing vines. The Nododivino vineyards, specifically, are located at an altitude of about 200 metres above sea level, with south-west exposure. Here they benefit from a favourable microclimate thanks to the combination of sea and mountain breezes. This perfect balance contributes to optimal ripening of the grapes, enhancing the organoleptic characteristics of the wine. 100% Montepulciano grapes, the vinification of this red begins with a manual harvest. The grapes are then transported to a tunnel saturated with CO? to prevent oxidative processes. Next, they are carefully de-stemmed to avoid breaking the berries and immediately cooled. This is followed by a brief maceration on the skins for about 3 hours in a press, in order to gently extract aromas and colour. The must obtained is then left to settle at a controlled temperature for 72 hours, favouring a natural clarification before fermentation. Intense ruby red in colour, the nose reveals a complex bouquet of spices, blackberry and plum. In the mouth, notes of blackberry, plum and black cherry emerge, followed by hints of tobacco and cloves. The good acidity, supported by soft tannins, gives the wine liveliness and persistence. Already good today, this Abruzzese red can evolve positively in the bottle for up to 10 years, developing further aromatic nuances and greater harmony on the palate. It goes well with grilled red meats, roasts and aged cheeses. For those who love regional combinations, try it with ‘cacio e ova’ (cheese and eggs) lamb or tasty sausages with tomato sauce.

The name is a nice play on words. But Nododivino is above all an interesting winery located in Ortona, on the Adriatic coast of Abruzzo. A company that stands out for its dedication to producing high quality wines that reflect the rich winemaking tradition of the region. The area is characterised by a combination of rolling hills and coastline, offering a microclimate ideal for viticulture. The sea breezes help keep the vines healthy, while the calcareous-clay soil nourishes the plants, giving the local wines a distinct minerality. Nododivino makes the most of these conditions, cultivating native vines such as Montepulciano and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, using sustainable agricultural practices that respect the environment and enhance local biodiversity.
