Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC Riserva Torrepasso, produced by Nododivino in the Teate sub-area, is an interesting local wine. We are in Ortona, where the winery is located, in the province of Chieti. Here the microclimate is ideal for viticulture. The hills surrounding the area have medium-textured soil with sand and clay in the underlying layers. This mix of soil gives the grapes unique characteristics, positively influencing the quality of the wine. The proximity to the Adriatic Sea and the protection offered by the Apennines create a climatic balance that favours optimal ripening of the grapes. Torrepasso comes from the Teate sub-area, recognised for the production of high quality wines thanks to favourable soil and climate conditions. Made from 100% Montepulciano grapes, this vine is known for its adaptability and for its ability to best express the characteristics of the territory. The vines are trained using the classic Abruzzo pergola, a traditional system that protects the bunches of grapes from excessive exposure to the sun and favours uniform ripening. The harvest is done manually, with a careful selection of the best bunches. The grapes are then transferred to the cellar where they are moved using a conveyor belt, avoiding the use of mechanical pumps and preserving the integrity of the grapes. After a light pressing, the must is transferred to conical fermenters. During fermentation the wine is pumped over to ensure a correct extraction of aromatic substances and tannins. Visually, Torrepasso has an intense purplish colour, indicating freshness and integrity, suggesting good ageing potential. On the nose, aromas of blackberry, ripe red plum and liquorice emerge, accompanied by delicate balsamic notes. In the mouth it offers sensations of wild berries, blackcurrant, blackberry and ripe plum, with a finish reminiscent of cherries in alcohol. The structure is full and harmonious, with well-integrated tannins and a pleasant freshness. Torrepasso goes well with full-flavoured red meats, such as braised and roast meats, but it is also ideal as a wine for meditation.
The name is a nice play on words. But Nododivino is above all an interesting winery located in Ortona, on the Adriatic coast of Abruzzo. A company that stands out for its dedication to producing high quality wines that reflect the rich winemaking tradition of the region. The area is characterised by a combination of rolling hills and coastline, offering a microclimate ideal for viticulture. The sea breezes help keep the vines healthy, while the calcareous-clay soil nourishes the plants, giving the local wines a distinct minerality. Nododivino makes the most of these conditions, cultivating native vines such as Montepulciano and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, using sustainable agricultural practices that respect the environment and enhance local biodiversity.
