Casal Thaulero - EX Strada Statale 538, 66026 Villa Caldari, Ortona CH
Casal Thaulero's Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo DOC Orsetto Oro is a rosé wine of great personality and refinement, made from pure Montepulciano grapes, a particularly versatile variety typical of Abruzzo. For its production, the Montepulciano grapes are vinified 'in bianco', i.e. without skin contact, or rather with only a few hours' contact, in order to give the wine its characteristic lively pink colour. The nose reveals a fruity soul, fine and intense, with hints of morello cherry and cherry that stand out and seduce. These notes merge into an elegant and complex bouquet that enhances the unique qualities of the Montepulciano grape variety. In the mouth, Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo DOC Orsetto Oro is dry, harmonious and persistent, thanks to the perfect balance between structure and acidity. A pleasantly versatile rosé, it is a perfect wine to accompany a wide range of dishes. With fish, such as brodettos, crustaceans and molluscs, or with meat, especially white meats such as rabbit or chicken. Finally, it is perfect with cheese and pizza.
Casal Thaulero represents a symbol of oenological excellence and long tradition, capable of conveying the history and beauty of Abruzzo through its wines. The winery boasts an ancient and fascinating history. Its name, for example, comes from the locality of Casal Thaulero, situated between the hills of Abruzzo and the Adriatic Sea. It was here that the Thaulero family, of military origin and from Hamburg, lived. They settled in Abruzzi in the 16th century and received a direct mandate from Charles V to oversee the area and, thanks to the work of Giovanni Thaulero, became the forerunners of viticulture in Abruzzi. Giovanni, in fact, wrote numerous treatises on viticulture and experimented with avant-garde agricultural techniques, planting modern vines and restoring his estates. This passion inspired a number of vine growers to unite and, in 1961, a cooperative winery was born, with the aim of producing and exporting Abruzzi wines to the world. Casal Thaulero was the first Abruzzi cooperative to bottle and export DOC wines to NAFTA countries, back in 1968. Since 2005, the winery has moved to new premises in the city of Ortona. Here, the winemaking tradition of Abruzzo continues to be cultivated with the same passion and commitment as always.
