This is a lighter style of Amarone with dried peppers and redcurrants. Medium-to full-bodied and lightly tannic, it still manages to deliver attractive red fruit and burnt undertones. Drink now.

Aromas of black plum, tobacco and cooking spices lead the way. The chewy palate offers prune, clove and star anise alongside firm tannins. Drink through 2026. KERIN O’KEEFE

Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico 2021
    • It is undoubtedly the most representative wine of the Cantina di Negrar. One of the most beloved by enthusiasts and customers around the world. We are talking about Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico, an absolute expression of the balance between elegance and structure that was invented in the Veronese winery. Produced exclusively with grapes from the Classic zone of Valpolicella, that is the historical one, the vineyards have an average age of more than 20 years and are still bred with Veneto’s traditional method of the pergola. After manual harvesting, the grapes are left to dry in the drying lofts until they reach the right concentration of sugar and only then are they sent for vinification. The refinement takes place as per tradition in large oak barrels for a minimum of 18 months followed by at least another 6 months of stabilization in the bottle. The result of such careful and punctual processing is a great meditation wine. An important glass that can also accompany a robust dinner but is also appreciated for after dinner with friends, perhaps some aged cheese or a piece of dark chocolate.

A historical organisation of Valpolicella. A social winery, that of Valpolicella Negrar, founded in August 1933 by "six local gentlemen" who joined together in a company to defend the territory from speculative investments. The aim, now as then, is to get directly to the consumer with products bottled in full respect of the local winemaking tradition. A tradition that the members of the winery cherish and safeguard with religious respect. Few people remember it, but it is precisely to the Negrar winery that we owe the origin of Amarone. It was 1936. Today the winery can count on about 600 hectares of vineyards, distributed in different areas of Valpolicella Classica (but not only) and cultivated by about 230 members. It boasts a wide production of wines awarded by international critics, a project to safeguard the environment and above all a line of high quality wines, the Domìni Veneti, which are exported all over the world. So much water has passed under the bridge since that distant August of 1933. And how much wine has been produced since then (and certainly enjoyed with satisfaction).
