    "Egoroseo" Susumaniello Rosato Salento IGP 2023
  • Let's start with the grape variety. In this case, Cantina Sampietrana works with one of the most interesting varieties of the region, the Susumaniello. It is a black grape variety that is mainly found in the Brindisi area. It is an old and traditional variety that has fortunately been revived and valorised in recent years. The medium-sized grapes with blue-black berries are known for their resistance and adaptability to the hot and dry climate of Puglia. These characteristics have led to the Sussumaniello being used in the past mainly in blends with other grapes to strengthen them in terms of colour and aroma. Today, however, the grape variety is increasingly vinified on its own, as a red wine or, as in this case, as a rosé, to bring out its best qualities. The Egoroseo presents itself in the glass with a beautiful pale pink colour. On the nose, there are hints of pomegranate, crisp strawberries and delicate notes of rose. In the mouth, however, it is fresh, with a pleasant minerality and good balance. It goes well with fish and seafood starters.

"Since time immemorial we have made our wine directly in our cellar, exclusively from grapes grown in our own vineyards, mostly Apulian 'alberelli' (small trees), over 50 years old and tended with love and dedication. The ultimate authenticity, we might add, with an eye on the things that really count. Such as sustainable practices on the land, with integrated or organic farming and the use of alternative energies in the cellar. All this in a beautiful social environment in San Pietro Vernotico, in the province of Brindisi. The wines offered are the result of the processing of indigenous varieties such as Negroamaro, Primitivo and Malvasia. With them also the old Susumaniello, Aglianico, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Lambrusco, Fiano and Verdeca. In addition, there are the "international" grape varieties Syrah, Cabernet, Merlot and Chardonnay, which here, in the heart of our south, know how to bring forth products of great pleasure and character.
