Imbottigliato da Cantina Fratelli Pardi S.S. - via Giovanni Pascoli, 7/9 - 06036 Montefalco (PG) - Italia
Montefalco Rosso Riserva DOC, this red wine from the territory offered here by Cantina Fratelli Pardi is made from a blend of three grape varieties: 70% Sangiovese, the undisputed prince of central Italy, 20% Sagrantino, the most representative grape variety of Umbria, and 10% Montepulciano grapes. It is hard to imagine a blend more representative of tradition than this. Harvesting, strictly by hand, begins in mid-September and continues until the beginning of October. Once in the cellar, the grapes undergo a period of maceration on the skins lasting about 10 days, followed by alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. At the end of the transformation, the wine is then passed into 26-hectolitre barrels made of French and Slovenian oak. This phase takes about 18 months, followed by at least another 9 months in stainless steel. Only then is the wine ready to be bottled. Ruby red, it offers a beautiful expressive originality on the nose. It has a decidedly Mediterranean character, with notes of flowers and red fruits. In the mouth, however, it has a welcoming impact and an important but refined tannic texture. Long and pleasant is also the finish, which is rich in mineral nuances. A fabulous wine for the whole meal, this Umbrian red requires a tasty pairing. Excellent with roast pork with potatoes.
This story begins in 1919. In that year, brothers Alfredo, Francesco and Alberto Pardi founded the family winery. At that time, the winery was located on the ground floor of the San Marco Hospital, in the San Francesco complex in Montefalco. At the time, part of the grapes were produced directly by the brothers and part were purchased from local landowners. The production included both white and red wines, although Sagrantino, at that time produced exclusively in passito version, represented the most important production. In 2002, driven by the desire to continue the work of their great-grandparents, Francesco, Gianluca Rio and Alberto Mario, with the help of their parents Agostino and Alberto, began a major restructuring of the family winery. Today, Cantina Fratelli Pardi is run by brothers Gianluca Rio and Alberto Mario, who, with their enthusiasm and hard work, continue the business they started more than a century ago. The new wine cellar is located a few steps from the town of Montefalco under the ancient walls. Built in 2003, it is intended for the entire production chain. While the vineyards, located along the gentle hills of Casale, Campolungo, Pietrauta and Lasignano, within the territory of Montefalco, extend over approximately 11 hectares.
