"Labellum" Aglianico del Vulture DOC 2019
    • The name ‘Labellum’ refers to the ancient town of Lavello, a vital centre in Roman times. This is an interesting Aglianico del Vulture DOC, proposed by Vitis in Vulture, that well represents this unique terroir, shaped by the volcano. 100% Aglianico del Vulture grapes grown on ancient volcanic soils at an altitude of around 380 metres above sea level. A unique microclimate is created here, perfect for the ripening of the grapes. The harvest, which takes place towards the end of October, is a crucial moment. The grapes are hand-picked and carefully selected to ensure maximum quality. In the winery, after crushing and destemming, the grapes ferment in contact with the skins for about 12 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This is followed by ageing for about four months in small French oak barriques, acquiring complexity and spicy notes. After bottling, a further period of bottle ageing follows. In the glass it has an intense ruby red colour with garnet reflections. On the nose, the bouquet is complex and enveloping, with notes of ripe red fruit, such as cherries and blackberries, and delicate hints of spices, typical of Aglianico. Elegant and dry, this red wine from the territory enjoys a perfect balance between tannins and structure. The finish is long and persistent, with a pleasant return of fruity and spicy notes. To be uncorked when full-bodied first courses, meat sauces, roast red meats and mature cheeses are on the table. Lamb, in particular, is an ideal companion.

Tradition and innovation at the foot of Monte Vulture. This is the calling card of Vitis in Vulture, a reality immersed in the extraordinary volcanic landscape of Basilicata. With its 95 hectares of vineyards, the company is distinguished by the passion with which it pursues the production of typical local wines. Guiding this reality is Giuseppe Avigliano, an expert agronomist and agricultural entrepreneur, who pursues the creation of an indissoluble bond between land, vineyard and bottle. In the countryside, he mainly grows local vines, such as Aglianico del Vulture, an indigenous grape that represents the region's oenological excellence. Thanks to a unique terroir of ancient volcanic origin, the wines acquire a complex structure and great minerality. The heart of the business is the Finocchiaro Winery, designed by Japanese architect Hikaru Mori, a perfect example of how architectural art can integrate with winemaking tradition. The winery, modern and innovative, is designed to host not only the wine production phases but also cultural events and tastings.
