Liguria di Levante Vermentino Nero IGT
  • Rare things are more valuable, by definition. Not even this rare - and precious - Vermentino Nero, a limited edition of Cantina Lunae, a tribute by Paolo Bosoni to a local grape variety that is almost extinct, is exempt from this golden rule. A red made from Vermentino Nero grapes, to which a small part of other local varieties grown in the Tuscan town of Fosdinovo, is added. Fermentation in large wooden barrels and aging of 8 months, also in wood, followed by another 12 months in cement. The result is a wine characterized by an intense ruby red colour. On the nose, hints of berries, violets, roses and Mediterranean herbs, well balanced by hints of spices, such as juniper, cloves and pepper. A white wine with great personality. Pleasantly tannic, it has a particularly long and pleasant finish.

There is a magical corner, between Liguria and Tuscany, in the heart of Lunigiana, where wine is a serious thing. An enterprise for heroic vine-dressers who cultivate their land, sweating every inch, with the consolation of often enjoying wonderful views, with slices of sea that can be seen squeezed between two steep hills. Since 1966, Paolo Bosoni, owner of Cantina Lunae and one of the most inspired interpreters of Vermentino, has been working with passion in this unique territory. His kingdom extends over about 45 hectares of land, divided between hills and plains, and divided into very small plots, no larger than 2 or 3 hectares, in the municipalities of Ortonovo and Castelnuovo Magra.
