Since 1925, Paternoster has been one of the symbolic wineries of Basilicata. Among the first to carry out a serious work of enhancement of the prince grape of Southern Italy, the Paternosters have shown the world that Aglianico is capable of giving wines of great character, so as to be called the Barolo of the South. Since 2016, the Tommasi family has joined Paternoster, giving new lifeblood to the Lucanian company and investing with increasing conviction on the project of enhancing the value of this extraordinary grape variety. Synthesi is a pure Aglianico, made by means of a classic red vinification, from destemmed grapes and with a maceration on the skins for 12/15 days at controlled temperature, with periodic pumping over and punching down. This is followed by a 12-month ageing phase, partly in large Slavonian oak casks and partly in second and third passage French barriques. The result is a wine characterized by a beautiful ruby red colour, with a fragrant fruity bouquet of blackberry, blueberry, underbrush berries and pepper. The taste is dry and velvety, with tannins well detected but in harmony with all the other components. Very long persistence.
