      "Finocchiaro" Rosso Basilicata IGT 2021
    • A tribute to a special vineyard. It is this Finocchiaro, Basilicata IGT that originates at the foot of Monte Vulture. This red wine bears the name of a special vineyard and is a tribute to a unique terroir and the passion of those who cultivate it. The Finocchiaro vineyard is located at an altitude of 350 metres above sea level, on soil rich in iron and calcium. Its exposure guarantees that the grapes ripen well, giving the wine produced here a perfect balance of freshness and structure. This red wine is the result of a combination of native and international grape varieties. Fifty per cent of the blend is made up of local red grapes, giving the wine the typicality of the terroir. The remaining 50% is divided between Syrah (40%) and Merlot (10%), which bring structure, complexity and spicy notes. Vinification is traditional, with maceration on the skins for about 18 days in stainless steel. This is followed by ageing in French oak barrels, which adds complexity and spicy notes to the wine, without overpowering the fruitiness. To the eye, Finocchiaro has an intense ruby red colour with violet hues. On the nose, the bouquet is broad and complex, with notes of ripe red fruit, such as blackberries and cherries, enriched by pleasant spicy nuances. In the mouth it is enveloping and persistent, with soft, velvety tannins. The finish is long and persistent, with a return of fruity and spicy notes. A versatile wine, it lends itself to numerous pairings. Excellent with full-bodied first courses, such as pappardelle with wild boar ragout or tagliatelle with truffles.

Tradition and innovation at the foot of Monte Vulture. This is the calling card of Vitis in Vulture, a reality immersed in the extraordinary volcanic landscape of Basilicata. With its 95 hectares of vineyards, the company is distinguished by the passion with which it pursues the production of typical local wines. Guiding this reality is Giuseppe Avigliano, an expert agronomist and agricultural entrepreneur, who pursues the creation of an indissoluble bond between land, vineyard and bottle. In the countryside, he mainly cultivates local vines, such as Aglianico del Vulture, an indigenous grape that represents the region's oenological excellence. Thanks to a unique terroir of ancient volcanic origin, the wines acquire a complex structure and great minerality. The heart of the business is the Finocchiaro Winery, designed by Japanese architect Hikaru Mori, a perfect example of how architectural art can integrate with winemaking tradition. The winery, modern and innovative, is designed to host not only the wine production phases but also cultural events and tastings.
