What makes 'Italian wine' so special is undoubtedly the great variety of indigenous grape varieties present in our country. What characterises Italy, in fact, is an ampelographic heritage (as it is called) that is simply unique in the world. And what we have here is just such a fine example. Di Majo Norante, a historic name in Italian viticulture, presents its Tintilia del Molise DOC here. A red jewel from the heart of Molise. Tintilia, a rare and precious indigenous grape variety, finds an ideal environment in Molise. The clay soils, characterised by a good texture and high drainage capacity, together with the temperate Mediterranean climate, with short, rainy winters and warm, windy summers, create a perfect microclimate for the development of grapes rich in aroma and flavour. The once widespread cultivation of Tintilia had almost been lost during the 20th century. Thanks to the commitment and passion of a few winegrowers, including Di Majo Norante, this vine has been rediscovered and enhanced, becoming today the true symbol of Molisian winegrowing. Its vinification takes place in full respect of the vine's characteristics. The carefully selected grapes undergo maceration in contact with the skins for about a month. This process allows the extraction of colour, tannins and the typical aromas of the fruit. Then, after alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation completes the process, giving the wine softness and harmony. Refinement takes place partly in barrels and partly in steel tanks, ending with a period of 6 months in the bottle. Deep and lively red in colour, the nose reveals an intense bouquet of aromas. Hints of ripe plums and spicy notes of black pepper and liquorice create a complex and refined olfactory picture. On the palate it conquers with its softness and elegant structure. The well-integrated tannins give the wine a long and pleasant persistence. It goes well with a variety of dishes. Perfect with red meats, roasts and braised meats, it enhances white meats. Also good with mature cheeses.
Di Majo Norante has been making wine from its own grapes since 1800, as evidenced by the cellars under the square and in the old family palace in Campomarino. We are in the province of Campobasso, in the Molise region. Today, as then, the company produces wines exclusively with grapes from the 123 hectares of the ancient feud of the Marquis Norante di Santa Cristina. With a traditional approach, and trying to preserve all the characteristics of Mediterranean grape varieties. Ancient grapes such as Aglianico, Montepulciano, Sangiovese and the precious Tintilia for the red wines. Falanghina and Greco for the whites. Continuous experimentation with these vines has allowed the wines of the di Majo Norante house to reach more than remarkable levels of quality, conquering increasingly important market shares, in Italy and on the main international markets. Great wines that respond well to the complexity of contemporary tastes.
