Torre Zambra, V.le Regina Margherita24 - 66010 Villamagna (Chieti)
Poggio Salaia, Pecorino IGT by Torre Zambra, is an organic wine. It is produced in Villamagna, a unique area between the Adriatic Sea and Majella. Pecorino is one of the oldest indigenous grape varieties in central Italy, characterised by extraordinary adaptability and the ability to offer fresh, complex wines. Interesting curiosity: the name ‘Pecorino’ is said to derive from the fact that sheep used to graze its particularly sweet grapes during transhumance. Its vinification begins with a 60-hour maceration of the skins, a process that allows the best possible extraction of aromas and structure. After fermentation, the wine is aged on fine lees in stainless steel vats for two months, a step that amplifies the organoleptic characteristics and gives the wine greater complexity. This is followed by further bottle ageing for a further two months before release. Brilliant straw yellow in colour with greenish reflections, intense citrus notes emerge on the nose, with lemon in the foreground, accompanied by light nuances of white flowers and a slight minerality. In the mouth, the initial freshness gives way to a well-marked savouriness, which makes the wine intriguing and pleasantly complex. The finish is long and persistent, with a pleasant sensation of cleanliness and harmony. It goes well with fish dishes such as grilled meats, carpaccio and seafood soups. Also good with fresh cheeses, grilled vegetables and delicate risottos.
Torre Zambra represents an authentic excellence of Abruzzo oenology. Its history is linked to that of the De Cerchio family who began cultivating their first plot of land in Villamagna in 1910. The official foundation, however, dates back to 1961, by Laurentino De Cerchio. The choice of Villamagna as the beating heart of wine production is no coincidence. This little jewel of Abruzzo's hinterland is blessed with a unique microclimate due to its proximity to both the Adriatic coast and the Majella mountain range, which creates significant temperature excursions between day and night. The vineyards of Torre Zambra are located between 120 and 200 metres above sea level, with limestone-clay soils rich in humus, optimal conditions for the cultivation of native grape varieties such as Pecorino, Passerina and Trebbiano. However, it is Montepulciano that is the real protagonist of its production. The production philosophy of the De Cerchio family is distinguished by its deep respect for the environment. All the vineyards are cultivated according to organic farming principles, an approach that favours respect for natural times and non-invasive techniques. A distinctive element of the winery is the choice of spontaneous fermentation, a process that uses the indigenous yeasts naturally present on the grapes to create wines that fully reflect the characteristics of the terroir. This method, combined with careful agronomic practices, gives complex and aromatic wines, authentic emotions in the bottle.
