The Marche region, with its undulating landscape and mild climate, offers fertile ground for viticulture. A fine example of this is this Falerio DOC Pecorino Tarà from Tenuta Cocci Grifoni, which comes from vineyards located at an altitude ranging from 230 to 250 metres above sea level, benefiting from a favourable exposure that ensures perfect ripening of the fruit. The blend in this case is composed of 85% Pecorino, which gives structure and aromatic intensity, and 15% Trebbiano Toscano, which instead brings freshness and delicacy, softening the power of Pecorino. The grapes are harvested by hand starting in the second ten days of September, ensuring careful selection of the best bunches. Vinification is white, at a controlled temperature, to best preserve the freshness of the initial fruit. This is followed by ageing in stainless steel for at least 3 months before bottling. In the glass Tarà offers a fascinating and complex bouquet. Fruity notes of pear, followed by delicate floral sensations of jasmine. Then hints of kiwi and nuances of passion fruit. On the palate, it is sincere and pawfect, characterised by the liveliness of Pecorino that harmoniously relaxes thanks to the hints of wild flowers brought by Trebbiano. Tarà has a good capacity for ageing, for a white wine, although its freshness and liveliness make it ideal for young drinking, when the fruity and floral aromas are at their peak.
We are located in the rolling hills of the Marche, where the Adriatic Sea meets the Sibillini Mountains. This is where Tenuta Cocci Grifoni, a winery founded in the 1930s by Guido Cocci Grifoni, is located. A far-sighted pioneer, Guido laid the first vineyards in what we now know to be an area with a vocation for viticulture, laying the foundations of a reality that still belongs to his family almost a century later. Today, the vineyards extend over about 60 hectares of the company's total 100 hectares, surrounded by centuries-old woods and olive groves. This unspoilt landscape, characterised by a Mediterranean climate with mountain influences, gives the grapes unique characteristics that translate into wines of great value. Between the rows, both native and international varieties are grown. In particular, Pecorino, Montepulciano and Passerina, which best express the character of the territory. Then Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon that, despite their French origin, adapt perfectly here in the Marche region to produce very interesting wines. From the very beginning, Tenuta Cocci Grifoni has made sustainability one of its founding values. Today, the company is SQNPI certified (Sistema Qualità Nazionale Produzione Integrata - National Quality System for Integrated Production) and adheres to environmentally friendly farming practices, such as integrated pest management and the use of only organic fertilisers. In addition, 30% of the farm's surface area is used as woodland, to better protect biodiversity.
