This interesting Pecorino d'Abruzzo DOC belongs to the so-called ‘Linea Varietale’ (Varietal Line) of Nododivino, a range of wines made from native grapes that well represents the essence of Abruzzo. Nododivino is located in Ortona, in the province of Chieti, a coastal town overlooking the Adriatic Sea, with a thousand-year history and a strong winemaking tradition. The surrounding hills, characterised by medium-textured soils with clay and sand, offer ideal conditions for growing vines. The Pecorino vineyards are located at an altitude of about 50 metres above sea level, with a south-easterly exposure, benefitting from a favourable microclimate thanks to the combination of sea breezes and well-drained soils. This climatic balance contributes to the optimal ripening of the grapes, enhancing the organoleptic characteristics of the wine. Pecorino, a white grape variety mainly found in the Marche and Abruzzo regions, and to a lesser extent in Lazio and Umbria, is known for its ability to produce wines with a strong floral and fruity character. This ‘Varietale’ by Nododivino is a fine example. The vinification process begins with the manual harvesting of the grapes, guaranteeing the integrity of the bunches. The grapes are then taken to the winery where they are placed on a sorting table. Here they are further sorted to ensure the quality of the final product. In the glass it has a straw yellow colour with green streaks. The nose offers a complex bouquet reminiscent of white fruits such as peach, followed by hints of lavender and delicate notes of chamomile and citrus fruits. In the mouth it is appreciated for its excellent concentration and good balance between alcohol and acidity. The long finish is accompanied by savoury and mineral notes that give the wine a pleasant freshness and a beautiful complexity. To be paired with dishes based on fresh fish and white meats. Excellent with fish broth, typical of the region.
The name is a nice play on words. But Nododivino is above all an interesting winery located in Ortona, on the Adriatic coast of Abruzzo. A company that stands out for its dedication to producing high quality wines that reflect the rich winemaking tradition of the region. The area is characterised by a combination of rolling hills and coastline, offering a microclimate ideal for viticulture. The sea breezes help keep the vines healthy, while the calcareous-clay soil nourishes the plants, giving the local wines a distinct minerality. Nododivino makes the most of these conditions, cultivating native vines such as Montepulciano and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, using sustainable agricultural practices that respect the environment and enhance local biodiversity.
