Champagne Taittinger, 9 place Saint-Nicise, 51100 Reims. Distributed by Domori Srl, Via Pinerolo 72/74, 10060 None (TO) Italy
All the Prestige of Maison Taittinger history is encapsulated in this simply stunning Champagne Rosé. The offspring of a special blend, it comes from 70 percent red wine, made from the best Pinot Noirs from the Montagne de Reims and Riceys, a village surrounded by vineyards where grapes are traditionally grown to make rosé wines and champagne. This unusual cut gives the final cuvée an unmistakable color and vibrant intensity. The high proportion of Chardonnay also provides the wine with a pleasant elegance and delicacy. In the glass it has an incredible bright, vibrant pink hue. As in the Maison's style, the effervescence is particularly delicate, with a very fine and persistent perlage. The nose is fresh and youthful, with very clear aromas of wild raspberry, cherry and black currant. In the mouth, however, it strikes the perfect balance, between velvety and full-bodied. Lively, fruity, fresh and elegant. As only a rosé blend can be. It is the elegant bubbly that requires elegant pairing. With lobster, in particular, it is a love marriage. Also good with a delicious slice of fruit cake.
The Taittinger brand does not have a 100-year history. But despite this, it is now considered one of the most famous and important Maisons in all of Champagne. It came into being in 1932 with its acquisition by Pierre Taittinger, an enthusiast of gastronomy and bubbly, who became aware of the estate while serving the French army as a first cavalry officer during the Great War. Today the Maison is run by the third generation of the Taittinger family, with Pierre-Emmanuel and his sons Clovis and Vitalie. La Maison is located near the city of Reims, on the ruins of the Saint-Nicaise de Reims Abbey. Among the Maison's special features are undoubtedly the historic underground cellars, built from gypsum quarries from the Gallo-Roman era. Here the wines have time to mature slowly in contact with their own yeasts. 288 hectares of total property, divided into 34 different crus where Chardonnay is the most significant variety, entering the blend of its most iconic label, the prized Comtes de Champagne. The judgment of experts is unanimous. With a label line that includes several limited editions, vintages and reserves, Maison Taittinger rightfully enters the elite of great Champagnes!
