Barolo "San Lorenzo di Verduno" DOCG 2019
    • 100% Nebbiolo, this wine is made exclusively from grapes harvested, by hand, in the vineyards of the historic San Lorenzo Cru located in the municipality of Verduno. Vinification is traditional, with fermentation lasting around 15/20 days at a controlled temperature, during which the must is regularly stirred to maximise the extraction of colour and varietal aromas. This is followed by classic malolactic fermentation and long maturation in Slavonian and French oak Tonneaux. It takes at least 4 years, 2 of which are spent in wood, before the Nebbiolo reaches the right maturity to be offered on the market. At that point, however, Barolo San Lorenzo expresses all the refinement typical of Verduno wines, with hints of spice and rose petals, velvety tannins, beautifully softened and elegant. Rich yet extremely refined, it is a great red wine for ageing, if stored carefully. To appreciate it at its best, it is necessary to choose the pairing carefully. Ideal with fondue, it also goes well with first courses with game sauces, red meats and tasty cheeses. Excellent, in the right season, also with truffles.

Situated in Montà d'Alba, the Pelassa winery leads vineyards in the Roero and Verduno, for the production of Barolo. Mario founded the Pelassa company in 1960 at the end of his military service. Today, it is run by the whole family, with Maria Teresa, known as Teresina, who has always been at Mario's side, and her sons Davide and Daniele, in the vineyard and cellar respectively. A scrupulous work of selection and clonal programming within the new plantings, and great efforts for investments in the cellar, guarantee the enhancement of the quality of the grapes harvested and the achievement of the objective of producing wines that have a full wine-vineyard-terroir correspondence. It is no coincidence that in recent years the company has concentrated mainly on the cultivation of the three varieties that are best suited to the typical soils of the area: Arneis, Nebbiolo and Barbera.
