CHARACTERISTICS
  • TypeVino rosso fermo
  • Location Sicily
  • Grapes NERELLO MASCALESE 80% NERELLO CAPPUCCIO 20%
  • Sensations The wine appears in the glass with a light ruby red colour, typical of the variety from which it is made. The bouquet is particularly rich and elegant with notes of red fruit reminiscent of wild strawberries and raspberries, surrounded by floral hints of violets that are enriched by subtle and pleasant spicy and toasted scents reminiscent of walnut husk, cinnamon, nutmeg, tobacco leaves and cocoa beans. The particularly broad and varied bouquet gives great opulence to the taste which reveals a warm and structured wine, very elegant, with ripe tannins and a typical minerality. The finish reveals great balance and a persistence that slowly dissolves, leaving a very pleasant aromatic return that brings us back to the notes perceived on the nose.
  • Vinification This wine is obtained from a blend of two ancient varieties of Nerello (Mascalese and Cappuccio, also known as Mantellato). The grapes are harvested by hand and placed in boxes to avoid crushing the berries. At the moment of reception in the cellar, the grapes are destemmed and delicately crushed. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out in stainless steel at a temperature of 24-28° C with the wine remaining in contact with the skins for a long time. The wine then matures in second and third passage barriques for about 14 months, followed by a period of refinement in the bottle as a prelude to marketing.

  • In this case the volcano is represented with the face of a man (demon), with a beard and flames coming out of his mouth. After all, this is the character of the mountain and of this area rich in history. The vineyards are steeped in ash and the volcanic soils are forged by fire. From here, from this incredible place, come grapes with a unique character. Low yields and ancient varieties of Nerello allow Cantine Patrì to obtain a wine of great character and elegance. Etna DOC Rosso, the vineyards are located on the south-eastern side of Etna, between 650 and 700 meters above sea level. They are old vines, already trained on espaliers, with an average age of about 25 years. This wine is made from a blend of two ancient varieties of Nerello, Mascalese and Cappuccio, also known as Mantellato. Harvested by hand and placed in boxes to avoid crushing the berries, the grapes undergo a slow transformation in the cellar, culminating in a period of wine maturation in second and third passage barriques for about 14 months. Thus we discover a wine characterised by a beautiful light ruby red colour, typical for the varieties with which it is produced. On the nose, however, the bouquet is anything but light, but rich and elegant, with notes of red fruit reminiscent of wild strawberries and raspberries. Then floral scents reminiscent of violets, and subtle spicy and toasted scents. In the mouth, then, you discover an opulent, warm and structured wine. Very elegant, with ripe tannins and a typical minerality that comes from the volcanic soils. This is the red wine you should always have in your cellar, in view of your next meat dinner.

Cantine Patrì has roots as solid as its vineyards. The company was founded in 1936, in the territory of Butera, by Rocco Paterna, who was succeeded, years later, by his son-in-law Giuseppe Patrì and later by his son Rocco. The latter, with his wife Patrizia and children Giuseppe, Elisa and Daniela, decided to enhance the extraordinary wine heritage of his land, devoting a third of the 250 hectares of property to the production of wine. Today Cantine Patrì produces wines in the Riesi, Etna and Sicily DOCGs, as well as the prestigious Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG. The winery is located in the hilly inland area of the province of Caltanissetta, in central southern Sicily, characterised by mild temperatures, abundant sunshine and a period of drought generally concentrated between June and August. Soils composed of clayey and calcareous rocks allow the winery to produce wines of great structure, with compact, deep colours and great longevity. The varieties represented are those typical of the region, namely Nero d'Avola, Frappato, Syrah, Catarratto, Insolia, Grillo and Zibibbo. The company is also committed to environmental protection and the safeguarding of specific characteristics. The entire production of Cantine Patrì, therefore, is part of a harmonious project that starts from the meticulous care of the processes, to the choice of the best grapes up to the cellar, where a meticulous control of all phases begins, through modern and respectful processes of vinification.
