Hauner, Via Umberto I, 1 - 98050 Santa Marina Salina (ME)
The base blend consists of Calabrese, better known as Nero d'Avola, and undoubtedly the Sicilian native grape variety par excellence, Alicante and Nocera. We are talking about one of Hauner's most representative wines, the Hierà Rosso, IGP Terre Siciliane. A red of good character and territoriality, this wine is the result of super careful processing of grapes harvested by hand at the right degree of ripeness. In the winery, vinification begins with a long maceration on the skins, followed by fermentation and ageing in temperature-controlled steel tanks. After bottling, the wine then rests in the cellar for at least 4 months before taking its way to the market. In the glass it has a beautiful intense ruby colour with purple reflections. The nose is rich in aromas, characterised by excellent intensity and elegant notes. Red fruits, a delicate sweet spiciness of tobacco and cocoa to almost clay-like notes. In the mouth, it is broad and velvety. Gritty, with lovely sweet tannins, the right savouriness and a good alcohol content. A wine that clearly manifests 'all the sunshine that only the island of Vulcano can express'. On the table it calls for slightly spicy dishes. For those who want to experiment with a territorial and unconventional combination, fresh tuna with caper sauce is simply "the death of it"!
Write Malvasia delle Lipari and you read Carlo Hauner. Yes, because this name has been practically synonymous with it since 1963. It all began because of Hauner's great passion for oenology and in particular for this extraordinary grape variety from the Aeolian Islands. An internationally renowned painter and designer, Carlo Hauner started wine production after restoring ancient terracing on the island of Salina. Within a few years, thanks to the unconditional support of many experts, starting with Gino Veronelli, Carlo Hauner's wines found their place in the cellars and on the tables of the most prestigious restaurants, in Italy, France, the United States, Great Britain and Japan. Then, in the 1980s, with the construction of a modern cellar, production expanded and, alongside Malvasia, the prestigious local wines, Salina Bianco and Salina Rosso, were born. Since 1996, his son Carlo Junior, with his grandsons Andrea and Michele, has been running the company.
