This medium-bodied red shows a pleasing juiciness, with firm, well-knit tannins, wrapped in a creamy cloak of baked strawberry and raspberry fruit, offering hints of wild sage, stony mineral and white pepper that linger on the finish. Drink now through 2026
The sub-zone Inferno in Valtellina is one of the most interesting. The name probably derives from the harshness of the small terraces, situated between Poggiridenti and Tresivio, which make the work of the farmers extremely tiring. But it is also, and above all, the area of Valtellina that enjoys the best exposure and where the Nebbiolo grapes are always able to reach perfect ripeness. Cruus is Mamete Prevostini's interpretation of this interesting anchor of territory. Grapes harvested strictly by hand and processed in steel at controlled temperature, after fermentation are passed into oak barrels for the usual phase of maturation. It takes about 12 months in wood and at least 10 months in the bottle to achieve finesse and balance. At that point, however, what you get is a great wine of the territory, characterized by a beautiful ruby red color that is not overly charged. On the nose it is dominated by fine scents, with clear recognition of morello cherry and small red fruits, well supported by mineral and spicy notes. on the palate it is harmonious, fresh and with great character. A beautiful wine that knows perfectly how to draw attention to the center of a table. Good today, it is a wine capable of evolving over the years, acquiring ever greater complexity. Let's save it for the right opportunity.
A beautiful story, that of the Mamete Prevostini Winery. A story made of passion for a unique territory, such as the Valtellina, and of a vine that, here as elsewhere, has the ability to give life to extraordinary wines. We are obviously talking about Nebbiolo, which in these parts is called Chiavennasca. The original Mamete Prevostini, grandfather of the current owner of the company, began to produce wine immediately after the end of the WWI It did so by exploiting an ancient crotto, a natural cave that has always been used as a cellar in the Chiavenna Valley. But it wasn't until 1995 that his grandson made his debut with a real quality production for the market. Today the winery can count on a total of 20 hectares of vineyards, of which 8 are owned and the remaining 12 are rented. Mamete Prevostini's wines, which have been awarded by critics and international wine guides, undoubtedly represent a point of reference for the entire area.
