    Greco Sannio DOC 2021
  • We are located in the heart of Sannio, the ancient land of the Samnites, in the province of Benevento. Here the countryside is divided between centuries-old vineyards and olive groves, from which some of the most prestigious wines of the Campania region come. These wines are often the result of the pure processing of typical local grape varieties, such as Greco, a very ancient white grape variety, whose introduction into southern Italy is said to date back to the Greek colonisation of the 8th century BC. From Calabria, the grape was subsequently introduced throughout Italy thanks to the Roman conquests, giving rise to numerous grape varieties. La Fortezza, a winery in Torrecuso, offers it here in a very interesting version. Made purely from grapes, this local white wine is characterised by a golden yellow colour and a complex aroma of ripe fruit, candied fruit and honey. In the mouth, however, you discover a wine characterised by a smooth and well-structured flavour. Excellent with fish, seafood and shellfish dishes, this Greco from Campania is not afraid of a combination with white meats.

Never before has the link with the territory been as tangible as in this case. We are talking about the special relationship that binds the entrepreneur Enzo Rillo with his land, the Sannio. It was here, in fact, that he decided to set up his farm, La Fortezza, in the heart of Taburno. Founded with the precise aim of enhancing the good things of his land, right from the start he focused on typical wines, such as Aglianico del Taburno DOCG, Falanghina del Sannio, Greco, Fiano and Piedirosso. Aglianico, in particular, proves to be an extremely versatile grape variety and is also used to produce a rosé, again on its own. The latest foray, in terms of time, is into the world of bubbles. Today, in fact, La Fortezza is flanking its traditional line with an interesting range of sparkling wines, Charmat and classic method, based on Falanghina. And with this, the circle really closes.
