100% Vernaccia. Perfectly healthy grapes from the vineyards of Azienda Agricola San Benedetto, a small family business in San Gimignano. One of the few corners of Tuscany where red wines must give pride of place to whites. The grapes are carefully selected according to the best sugar-acidity ratio. Once in the cellar, after a very brief skin maceration, they are pressed and the must obtained is fermented at a controlled temperature, in 700-litre tonneaux. At the end of the transformation, the wine is then left in the same containers, where it matures, on its fine lees, for at least 12/18 months. The result is a Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG Riserva of great pleasantness and good drinkability. A wine characterised by a beautiful golden yellow colour, with evident citrus and fruity notes reminiscent of peach and apple. All made more appealing thanks to an elegant vanilla touch. The palate reveals a wine characterised by a rich, fresh and balanced taste. Also remarkable is its persistence, which prolongs the pleasure of drinking for several minutes.
Visiting the website of the Azienda Agricola San Benedetto, in San Gimignano, one discovers a beautiful reality founded as far back as 1826. At that time, the Giannelli family ran a small farm with vineyards, olive groves and livestock at San Benedetto. This farm, called 'podere Casaccia', was managed under the old sharecropping system until the 1960s, when brothers Dario and Giuseppe, with their respective sons, decided to buy the first piece of land. In 1975, therefore, the first part of the winery was built on this very land, with the name Azienda Agricola Giannelli. The rest is the story of an 'ordinary entrepreneurial success' that led to the acquisition of new vineyards and the construction of a larger winery with modern equipment. This led to 1998, when the company took its current name of Azienda Agricola San Benedetto. New name, same goal as always: to produce quality, territorial wines.
