Costa Toscana IGT is a denomination that includes wines produced along the coast, from Massa-Carrara to Grosseto. This is an area rich in diversity and unique microclimates, where vines grow strong and naturally healthy thanks to the influence of the sea and sun. The Vermentino proposed here by Piccini comes from this territory. An organic white wine produced on the Moraia Estate in Maremma. The grapes, harvested at the end of August, when they have reached optimal ripeness, are vinified in stainless steel. Then, at the end of vinification, the wine matures on its lees for about three months, with frequent bâtonnage that increases its complexity and structure. In the glass, Costa Toscana IGT Vermentino has a golden yellow colour with greenish reflections. The nose reveals intense floral notes of jasmine and acacia, enriched by hints of aromatic herbs such as thyme and rosemary. In the mouth it is round and savoury, with good acidity giving it freshness and balance. The finish is persistent and slightly savoury, typical for wines produced on the coast. On the table it accompanies fish dishes, grilled or baked. But also with fried or stewed squid, fish or mussel soups.
They rightly call themselves 'The Italian wine family'. After all, what is now an enormous enterprise that revolves around the work of 7 wineries, in Tuscany but not only, and that is able to put millions of bottles of wine on the market every year, originates from a single small plot of land in Poggibonsi. It was purchased in 1882 by Angiolo Piccini who founded his own company with his wife, Maria Teresa Totti. From that small plot, 7 hectares in all, the first Chianti straw flasks were produced. The rest is history, work and commitment. Today, Mario Piccini, the fourth generation of the family, runs the company. With him are his sisters Martina and Elisa and his children Ginevra, Benedetta and Michelangelo, all personally involved in the company's activities. Five of the family's seven estates are cultivated according to organic farming principles.
