If it is true (as it is) that the mere mention of San Michele Appiano is enough to send the minds of wine lovers and experts flying to wines of unparalleled finesse, the words Sanct Valentin represent an important "upgrade". It is, in fact, the winery's flagship line. The highest expression of the territory and its typical grape varieties, capable of expressing unique and unforgettable wines. The signature is that of the winery's historic oenologist, Hans Terzer, who is considered by many experts to be one of the best in the world. Only the best grapes are used, from the vineyards of the contributing members in the most suitable areas. In particular this Sauvignon, which since 1989 has undoubtedly been considered the winery's most famous white wine. It is the result of individual and selected plots on the slopes at the foot of the Mendola. After all, if it is one of the most awarded white wines in Italy, there must be a reason. In the glass it has a lovely, fresh, yellowish-green colour. The nose has a dense bouquet of yellow fruit, gooseberries, elderflower and ripe currants. On the palate, however, it is a wonderful interplay of balance, between crisp freshness, softness and body. Elegant and full-bodied, this wine can accompany any type of lunch or dinner. From aperitifs to fish dishes, raw or elaborate. Difficult to put it through its paces.
About 2 million bottles per year. Very high average quality. Around 350 members. These are the numbers, and the facts, that characterise the fine cooperative winery in San Michele Appiano. Founded in 1907 by a few visionary winegrowers, it is now one of the most solid wineries in Northern Italy, with wines that have won awards all over the world. If you think of Alto Adige and its good varietals, San Michele Appiano is a must. Its production, in fact, is dominated by wines made from the typical grapes of the region, from Gewürztraminer to Müller Thurgau. From Sauvignon to Riesling. From Pinot Bianco to Lagrein. All mountain grapes that grow thanks to the mild climate and the unique soils of the vineyards. Today the winery can count on around 400 hectares of vineyards. An enormous area, if one considers the Alto Adige region, but small in absolute terms. Especially when one considers the number of members of the winery. In vineyard management, a team of technicians and agronomists is constantly at the side of each member, offering valuable advice on how to manage their rows. The result is grapes of the highest quality, which are then processed in the winery using the most innovative winemaking techniques to bring out every nuance. Welcome to Alto Adige
