CONTINI1898 SPA - VIA GENOVA 48/50 - 09072 CABRAS (OR)
Vernaccia di Oristano DOC is a Sardinian white wine of great tradition, produced in this case in the lower Tirso and Sinis valleys by Contini 1898. Its origin dates back to the Middle Ages and is deeply linked to the culture and traditions of the region. Produced from pure Vernaccia grapes, this native vine finds an ideal habitat in the Oristano area. It is characterised by its resistance to drought and wind, and its ability to adapt to the sandy and calcareous soils of the area. Vinification is carried out in white. It starts with a soft pressing of the grapes, followed by fermentation at a controlled temperature. The wine then matures in oak and chestnut barrels for about 4 years. These are deliberately kept drained to allow the development of the characteristic veil of yeast, known as Flor, which generates the unmistakable aromas of Vernaccia. A complex and fascinating wine, Contini1898's Vernaccia di Oristano DOC presents itself in the glass with an intense golden yellow colour. The nose has scents of dried fruit, citrus fruits, honey, spices and white flowers. In the mouth, however, it is warm and decisive, with a freshness and flavour that make it persistent and harmonious. Ideal with mullet roe, it can also be served with mature cheeses and almond desserts.
There are many small Italian wineries that have grown and developed over the years thanks to the passion handed down from father to son. Among these, a place of honour goes to the Sardinian Contini, founded in 1898 and jealously guarded by members of the historic Oristano family ever since. First Salvatore, then Attilio, today Paolo and grandsons Alessandro and Mauro. No fewer than four generations. For over a century, the Contini name was identified with Vernaccia di Oristano. Then, over the years, Vernaccia was joined by other important products, such as Nieddera, Vermentino and Cannonau. Today, the company is a solid regional reality, capable of selling its good products in many different markets. But it is on the island, a few kilometres from the sea, that Contini's heart continues to beat. And to understand this, just uncork any of their bottles. They have Sardinia inside!
