Champagne Jean Vesselle - 4 rue Victor Hugo – 51150 BOUZY
A classic Brut, rather dosed (so not extreme) and definitely drinkable. Some even go so far as to describe it as "comfortable ... like two warm slippers in the evening." Do we render the idea? We are talking about Jean Vesselle's Champagne Brut Réserve. The company is located in Bouzy. We are in the heart of one of the most suitable territories for the cultivation of Pinot Noir, the famous Montagne de Reims. This Champagne, masterfully crafted by Delphine Vesselle, is born from a love marriage of 80% Pinot Noir and 80% Chardonnay for the remainder. This is an S.A., which is a Cuvée without a vintage, although the base refers to the 2020 vintage. The nose is powerful, with distinctly fruity aromas reminiscent of fresh fruit, citrus and apple. In the mouth, however, it is mostly harmonious and smooth. A glass to drink without running the risk of regret. Light and elegant, it has a lingering honeyed touch. Traditional, aristocratic, smooth and delicate champagne. It is just the right bottle to kick off an evening destined to linger long in the memory. Perfect with aperitifs and appetizers, it is the right wine to accompany an elegant all-fish dinner.
The maison is still called Jean Vesselle, in honor of the father who founded it. But today it is led by his daughter, Delphine, who over time, in the best Champagne tradition, has been able to take the reins to create a company in her image. That is without forgetting "the vigneronesque vision and teachings of her father who died prematurely many years ago." We are in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, the land of the region's best Pinot Noirs, and to be precise in Bouzy. 16.9 hectares total, divided between 80% Pinot (Noir) and 20% Chardonnay. Annual production is around 150,000, making this small boutique maison, a small gem of absolute quality. In the winery, modern facilities enable Delphine, assisted by her husband, to produce a fairly extensive range of bubbles, with Cuvées and Millesimés, Grand Cru and otherwise. Minimal and generous dosages. Finally, Maison Jean Vesselle is certified "Haute Valeur Environnementale" and "Viticulture Durable en Champagne." In short-there really is something for every palate.
