Made from roughly one-third each Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier; 11 g/l dosage; disgorged in 2013 after five years on its yeasts. Bright yellow. Potent smoke-tinged orchard and pit fruit aromas are complemented by notes of tarragon, toasted brioche and pungent flowers. Fleshy and broad on entry, then tighter in the mid-palate, offering juicy pear and nectarine flavors and a bracing kick of chalky minerals. This rich yet lively Champagne finishes with very good thrust and length and repeating smokiness. - Josh Raynolds
A wealth of trademark complexity that makes for an immediately engaging Champagne. Bright little red berries and poached peaches plus flinty reductive notes and baked caramel nut biscuits. Makes a composed and focused impression to start with citrus, strawberry and stone fruit flavors all here; really fluffy foamy texture fills it out and then it rolls through richer savory notes to close. A solid NV drinking well now, this will even handle a year or two more on cork. - James Suckling
Based on 2007 vintage and the first new formulation, launched in 2012. 60% of 2007, a third of each variety. 60 crus. Far fewer crus than in the past - the principle difference from the old days. Reserve wines are half Chardonnay and half Pinot Noir, 8-10 years old. Kept in big containers. Minimum 36 months in crayères. 11 g/l dosage for all cuvées. Complex nose and very well balanced palate. Seems definitely ready. - Jancis Robinson
Balanced and rich with apple flavors, this is tightly textured, cut with lemon zest and full of fruit. Although aged for six years, it is still so fresh and crisp, with a bright, lively aftertaste only just hinting at some toast. - Roger Voss
Rich and creamy, this harmonious Champagne is expressive, with brioche, crystallized honey, black currant and toasted marshmallow flavors, accented by hints of verbena, baked peach and chopped nut. Vibrant and focused through to the lasting, saline-tinged finish. Drink now through 2022. 3,000 cases imported.– - Alison Napjus
Plush and opulent with layered aromas of toasty vanilla, apple and peach, the palate is creamy and lush with a fine bright acidity.
Brut Réserve is one of the pillars of the Charles Heidsieck brand, a true expression of the maison’s style and character. A fascinating blend of reserve wines (40%) and vintage wines, it contains the highest concentration of reserve wines - at least 10 years old - proposed in a brut cuvée. Brilliant gold in colour, with sweet hints of honey and the typical scent of brioche, it has an excellent balance between acidity and sweetness: a great reserve to uncork on special occasions.
- Do you know Charles Heidsieck?- The man or the champagne?- It doesn't matter, they're inseparable!Charismatic, dandy, globetrotting, popular. An ambassador of France and Champagne who earned the nickname Champagne Charlie in the United States. In 1989 they even made a movie out of it, starring Hugh Grant. But in 1862, the same country that had consecrated him to immortality as an icon of French bubbly brought him close to bankruptcy. Accused of espionage, he was arrested and imprisoned for 7 months. Recognized as innocent, he returned to France in November of that year, in poor health and on the verge of bankruptcy. The episode is still remembered today as the Heidsieck Incident. Champagne Charlie was not, however, an easy guy to break. In fact he managed to recover completely, conquering, after America, the courts of all Europe. Today, the Maison founded by Charles in 1851 continues to thrive (it boasts the world's most important wine shop in terms of size and value), and its style, which fully reflects Charles' unmistakable style, is characterized by a high proportion of Reserve wines that enrich the Maison's Cuvée sans annèe. Together with the original cru, the selected grapes constitute the complexity of the final product.
