Grattamacco's Bolgheri Rosso DOC stands out for its freshness, its decisive character and its ability to express its terroir of origin. The result of a skilful blend of traditional Bolgheri terroir grapes, with Cabernet Sauvignon (30%), Merlot (30%), Cabernet Franc (25%), Sangiovese (10%) and Petit Verdot (5%). Each grape variety brings its own unique characteristics, creating a complex and balanced harmony of flavours and aromas. The grapes come from vineyards located between 100 and 200 metres above sea level, in an area characterised by soils rich in quartzose sandstone, white clay, marly limestone flysch and red sand. The temperate Mediterranean climate, with its frequent sea breezes, plays a fundamental role in the ripening of the grapes, giving the wine freshness and flavour. The production of Grattamacco's Bolgheri Rosso DOC follows the principles of sustainable agriculture, with full respect for the environment and the land. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected to ensure maximum quality. Fermentation takes place partly in steel vats and partly in barriques, giving the wine complexity and elegance. Bright ruby red in colour with garnet hues, the nose reveals fruity aromas of cherries, blackcurrants and blackberries intertwined with hints of herbs, sweet spices and tobacco. In the mouth, however, the wine envelops with its velvety softness, allowing an elegant tannic texture and a distinct mineral freshness to emerge. The finish is persistent, with an aftertaste of liquorice and black pepper. A versatile wine, it pairs perfectly with a variety of occasions. An ideal companion for savoury red meats, game, mature cheeses and elaborate meat or mushroom dishes.
The Grattamacco winery is located between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, in an area of enchanting beauty, from where one enjoys a panoramic view of the Tuscan coast. Since 2002 it has been part of the ColleMassari Wine Estates group, which belongs to the Bertarelli family, although the estate dates back to 1977. The vineyards are located at an altitude of about 100-200 metres above sea level, in a protected position in the hilly area of Bolgheri. The area enjoys a dry climate with considerable temperature fluctuations, which makes it possible to cultivate not only French grapes, but also Sangiovese and Vermentino.
