CHARACTERISTICS
  • TypeVino rosso fermo
  • Location Tuscany
  • Grapes 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot
  • Sensations To describe a wine it is always necessary to decipher its landscape of origin, placing it in the environment that generates it in order to appreciate its nature. Villa Donoratico is a decidedly consistent and complex wine that never falls into the obvious, demonstrating a character deeply tied to its area of origin. Matured in oak barrels, extraordinary in its drinkability and its loyalty to its type, can leave room for hints of red fruit on the nose, and slightly spicy ones on the palate.
  • Vinification The grapes are harvested by hand, selected on a double sorting table; the whole berries fall by gravity into the tanks. All the varieties are vinified separately. Fermentation and maceration take place in stainless steel tanks for about 20 to 25 days at a controlled temperature not exceeding 28?C. The wine is then transferred into 225 l French oak barriques, where malolactic fermentation is completed. Aging takes place in barriques and in bottles.

The Bolgheri Rosso Villa Donoratico is a thickly concentrated wine that pours from the bottle with generous flavors of blackberry and plum that are woven together with spice, tobacco and campfire ash. You can feel the power and exuberance of the dark primary fruit in this warm vintage. However, it does not lack freshness and acidity, which are ultimately what brings the wine into balance. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot (aged in oak for 12 months). An ample 120,000 bottles were produced. Go to Villa Donoratico for great value.

  • James Suckling 94

Very pretty aromas of berries, mushrooms and fresh herbs follow through to a full body with round, fine tannins and plenty of blackberry and blackcurrant flavors. Long and intense. The texture is beautiful in this wine. Drinkable now, but better in 2021.

  • Wine Spectator 92

A ripe, plush version, featuring mouthfilling blackberry, plum and spice flavors. Firm and dense, with a line of tannins on the earth-tinged finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2027. 10,000 cases made, 1,666 cases imported. — BS

    Villa Donoratico Bolgheri DOC
  • Produced at Tenuta Argentiera's Villa Donoratico, this Bolgheri DOC leaves nothing to chance. Starting from the selection of the grapes that after the harvest are brought to the winery and manually passed on a double sorting table. The whole grapes, by gravity, fall into the tanks where processing begins. All the varieties, Cab Sauvignon in clear predominance, then Merlot, Cab Franc and Petit Verdot, are processed separately. Malolactic fermentation and refinement in barriques, then blending before bottling. Villa Donoratico is a consistent and complex wine that never falls into the obvious. A character deeply linked to its area of origin. A perfect glass for a special occasion, such as a dinner with friends with a menu that ranges from red meats to medium-aged cheeses.

The location is Bolgheri. In the heart of the Maremma and where millions of enthusiasts from all over the world come to taste some of the most famous Tuscan wines. We're not talking Chianti or Brunello. But of Supertuscan, that unique mix of Tuscan terroir, in this case close to the sea, and international grape varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet. In this enchanted corner of Italy, between beaches and hills lies Tenuta Argentiera. The name comes from the ancient silver mines that were once found in this area, which is also rich in natural springs and healing waters. The Estate has two unique characteristics. It is the closest to the Tyrrhenian coast and, at the same time, also the one that reaches the highest altitude in the whole Bolgheri territory. Its vineyards rise up to about 200 meters above sea level, thus enjoying a very special and varied microclimate.
