Friulano Colli Orientali Friuli DOC 2023
    • Friulano is the most typical, and most loved, of the indigenous varieties of Friuli. Here, in the Colli Orientali, the minerality and unmistakable almond note blend to perfection, creating a wine that has captivated millions of people around the world. Bastianich harvests the grapes for this bottle in the vineyards of Premariccio, Cividale del Friuli and Prepotto. These are cooler plots, with eastern and south-eastern exposures. Here the soils are rich in clayey marl, alternating with layers of sandstone. The plants have an average age of about 20 years and produce clusters of good concentration. After harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and soft-pressed. The must is then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. That's it. No artifice. No superstructure for a wine that makes simplicity its strong point. Luminous straw yellow, the nose is rich and fruity, with notes of yellow fruit, citrus, fresh almonds and aromatic herbs. In the mouth, however, it is above all fresh and savoury, but also soft and fruity. A well-balanced wine with that typical bitter almond finish. For lovers of territorial combinations, this white wine goes well with the sweet Prosciutto di San Daniele, but also with fresh cheeses or fish starters.

The Bastianich family, that of the legendary Joe, has a history deeply linked to wine and to Friuli in particular. In fact, since 1997 the Bastianich estate has been able to count on no less than 40 hectares of vineyards, located in two distinct areas of the DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli. Part of them are on the Buttrio and Premariacco hills, in the hottest and southernmost area of the denomination. Here ripening is influenced by the warmth coming from the sea and the grapes are perfect for the production of the most full-bodied and structured wines. The other part of the estate is located in the hills of Cividale del Friuli and enjoys a completely different climate. Often affected by the Bora, the cold wind from the north, it produces wines with greater aromatic intensity. In the Bastianich wine range there are extremely territorial whites and reds, with some peaks of absolute excellence.
