We are in Farra d' Isonzo. Here, Ascevi Luwa works vineyards in the flat area close to the left bank of the river Isonzo. It is from this land, which has always been suited for the production of wine grapes, that the Friulano grapes used for this product originate. Low yields and manual harvesting are the other ingredients for a wine that is processed only in steel in full respect of the aromatic framework of the starting grapes. Brilliant straw yellow in colour with slight greenish reflections to remind us of its fresh and immediate nature. The nose surprises with its fine and delicate bouquet, reminiscent of wild flowers. It has the same finesse on the palate, where it also surprises with a delicate natural freshness. Full-bodied, it has the typical bitter almond aftertaste that makes it pleasant to drink and that lingers, with satisfaction, for several seconds after drinking. Ideal as an aperitif, it goes well with cured meats and in particular with the traditional San Daniele raw ham. Excellent with delicate fish dishes, it can also accompany white meat dishes.
San Floriano del Collio is one of those hidden corners of Friuli that bring serenity to those fortunate enough to know it. A magnificent natural landscape, where vineyards alternate with cherry trees and acacia woods. A borderland, Slovenia is only a few kilometres away as the crow flies. It was in this place that a young couple started their business in 1972. Mariano and Loredana planted their first vineyard, destined over the course of years to become the cornerstone of what is now a beautiful family business with around 30 hectares of vineyards in the Collio and Friuli Isonzo DOC areas. Today the two parents are joined by their children Walter and Luana. Most of the wines produced, as tradition dictates, are the offspring of white grape varieties, grown in vineyards at an altitude of between 150 and 250 metres above sea level. The Friuli Isonzo vineyards, on the other hand, are located in the flat area to the left of the river. While modern oenological practices are de rigueur in the cellar, the quality of Ascevi Luwa wines originates in the countryside. Because that is where wine is born. And good country makes good wine.
