If you have never tasted a wine made from 100 percent Bobal grapes, vinified in red or, as in this case, in pink, you need not worry. Although it is the second most planted red grape variety in Spain (according to official numbers), it still remains quite rare outside national borders. Its key characteristic is that it gives rise to distinctly fruity wines with soft tannins and a long velvety finish. This rosé offered by Aula, a brand owned by the large Grupo Coviñas, is no exception. A super-pleasant wine from the look of it, thanks to its bright, vivid pink color. On the nose, then, it confirms its nature as a pleasantly fruity wine, with a delicate bouquet reminiscent mainly of small berries, and in particular strawberries and raspberries. The same notes are also well recognizable in the mouth, where, however, the wine is also distinguished by a pleasant natural freshness. An excellent aperitif, this Spanish rosé can accompany a light lunch or dinner. Because of its delicate nature, however, it can also safely be offered in combination with a mouth-watering end to a meal. Excellent, for example, alongside a bowl of berries au naturel or with a slice of fruit cake, with a thin layer of custard.
Grupo Coviñas is the main winery in the Utiel-Requena Appellation of Origin, with more than 41 percent of the total land planted with vines. Technically it is a secondary cooperative, that is, a cooperative that includes other cooperatives. Founded in Requena in the 1960s at the initiative of winemakers from the region's 10 cooperatives who joined forces to leverage their sales force and optimize the market availability of their high-quality wines. Coviñas now represents more than 3,000 farmers belonging to ten different cooperatives: Los Isidros, Requena, La Portera, Roma, Las Monjas, San Antonio, Campo Arcís, Villargordo, Barrio Arroyo, and Los Duques. The wine maturation cellar, officially opened in 2003, has enough space to accommodate about 10,000 barrels. Added to this is a bottle storage area with a capacity of one million pieces. All with automated humidity and temperature control.
