Tenuta Sant'Antonio - Via Ceriani, 23, 37030 Colognola ai Colli VR
The production area is that of the municipality of Mezzane di Sotto, and more precisely the slopes of Monti Garbi. We are obviously in the province of Verona, in Valpolicella, the land of origin of the prestigious Amarone DOCG. The one proposed here, in particular, is produced by Tenuta Sant'Antonio, and is dedicated to Antonio Castagnedi, founder of the company, and his love for his land and for good wine. A label that tells of a family tradition. We are about 300 metres above sea level. The blend is composed of 70% Corvina and Corvinone, to which are added Rondinella, 20%, Croatina and Oseleta, for the remainder. Vineyards with an average age of 20-25 years, still partially cultivated with the traditional pergola system. Harvesting by hand, with double sorting, and subsequent drying in plateaux. Vinification then takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks about 3 months after harvesting. Then, after racking, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation, in 500-litre barrels, and a long maturation phase, again in tonneaux, lasting no less than 2 years. A ruby red colour with purple hues, the nose reveals a wine characterised by a beautiful, complex bouquet with notes of ripe red fruit, spicy aromas of liquorice, black pepper and hints of chocolate. In the mouth it is well balanced, with soft, round tannins, warm, savoury, elegant, fine and fresh. A fabulous meditation wine, it also lends itself well to accompany savoury first courses, even seasoned with truffles. Also excellent with main courses of meat and mature cheeses.
Tenuta Sant'Antonio was born in 1995 from the dream of four brothers. The Castagnedi family, winegrowers for generations, set out to make iconic wines, guided by research, experience and passion. Thus were born the fine products Valpolicella DOC and Soave DOC. Tenuta Sant'Antonio is located among the splendid slopes of Colognola ai Colli. The result of an ambitious entrepreneurial project, it is constantly evolving, continually pushing the boundaries of innovation to foster sustainability, excellence and international recognition. Today, the winery has 150 hectares of its own vineyards, 70% of which are located in Valpolicella, on the hill known as Monti Garbi, and 30% in the Soave area, on the prestigious Monte Ceriani hill. Annual production reaches around 1.8 million bottles, among all the references.
