"Marne 180" Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2020
  • The Amarone that knows how to surprise. This is how the Tedeschi winery managers describe this 'Marne 180', Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG produced with grapes from the Valpolicella hills. In this case, the areas of origin are different, and this is particularly important because it makes for a well-balanced wine with good structure. The curious name recalls the typology of the soils, marl, and their south-west to south-east exposure expressed in degrees, i.e. about 180. The blend chosen by Tedeschi includes 35% Corvina and Corvinone grapes, then 20% Rondinella and 10% Rossignola, Oseleta, Negrara and Dindarella. After vinification, the wine matures for almost three years, 30 months to be precise, in Slavonian oak barrels. Then, after bottling, follows a further phase of refinement in the bottle for no less than 6 months. Intense ruby colour, with a slight amber tinge, it is clear and transparent to the eye. On the nose, vanilla and ethereal notes, linked to the period of barrel ageing. Then sweet fruit, such as currant, blueberry, cherry, typical for grape varieties. In the mouth, finally, one discovers a beautifully structured wine, round and warm. Well balanced, all the previously perceived notes can be found on the palate. A long-lasting wine, it requires intense matching. Excellent, however, also as a meditation wine, with which to stay up late in the evening while chatting with friends.

The Tedeschi winery is located in the centre of Pedemonte, in the heart of Valpolicella Classica. Always committed to the development of their own vineyard, they were among the first to vinify grapes from individual plots separately. Huge investments have been made over the years in the vinification area, precisely to optimise the fermentation activities of the different vineyards. For the delicate phase of maturation, then, the winery equipped itself with Slavonian oak barrels, with capacities ranging from 1000 to 5000 litres. Finally, between 1995 and 2005, Tedeschi started an important study to control the grapes during the drying phase. And this allowed them to build a modern fruit cellar, capable of ensuring the integrity of the grapes during the entire processing cycle, thanks to careful control of the humidity in the environment and regular ventilation. However, so much effort and attention has paid off. Over the years, in fact, the Tedeschi winery has won numerous prizes and awards from the strictest wine critics, in Italy and abroad.
