Every year Maternigo, Tedeschi's Valpolicella DOC Superiore, receives awards and recognition. In Italy and abroad, the strictest wine critics recognise quality and typicality in this wine. The secret lies in the accurate soil mapping carried out within the Maternigo estate. This, in fact, has made it possible to identify certain plots of land that, due to the particular characteristics of the soil, the exposures and the responses of the plants, have turned out to be true crus. Among these is the Impervio vineyard, so called because of the steep slope of the terrain. This is where grapes of great concentration and high quality are obtained, which, suitably transformed, give life to this traditional red wine. 40% Corvina, 40% Corvinone and 20% Rondinella, after vinification Maternigo matures for over a year in 20 and 25 hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels. Then, after blending and bottling, it matures in the bottle for a further 6 months. Intense ruby red in colour, clear and transparent, the nose reveals a very pronounced fruitiness, with notes of redcurrant, sour cherry, cherry and plum that give it freshness and blend with mineral, ethereal, spicy and vanilla notes. In the mouth, it is a beautifully structured, fresh and balanced red. Long, fresh and persistent, this Valpolicella is undoubtedly an extremely elegant red, capable of withstanding the passage of time. On the table it goes well with red meat and game dishes, or lean, aged cheeses.
The Tedeschi winery is located in the centre of Pedemonte, in the heart of Valpolicella Classica. Always committed to the development of their vineyard, they were among the first to vinify grapes from individual plots separately. Huge investments have been made over the years in the vinification area, precisely to optimise the fermentation activities of the different vineyards. For the delicate phase of maturation, then, the winery equipped itself with Slavonian oak barrels, with capacities ranging from 1000 to 5000 litres. Finally, between 1995 and 2005, Tedeschi started an important study to control the grapes during the drying phase. This allowed them to build a modern fruit cellar, capable of ensuring the integrity of the grapes during the entire processing cycle, thanks to careful control of the humidity in the environment and regular ventilation. However, so much effort and attention has paid off. Over the years, in fact, the Tedeschi winery has won numerous prizes and awards from the strictest wine critics, in Italy and abroad.
