Authentic and captivating. These two words would be enough to describe the Barbera d'Alba DOC Morosa, proposed here by Pier Paolo Grasso. A traditional red wine that every good Piedmont enthusiast should taste. It originates from Treiso, in the heart of the Langhe. A charming Piedmontese village with a thousand-year history. Its hills, 250 metres above sea level, have medium-textured soil with clayey areas, ideal for growing Barbera. Barbera, the star of this bottle, is one of the most representative vines of Piedmont. Characterised by high acidity and moderate tannins, it produces medium-light bodied wines, with predominant fruity notes. These characteristics make Barbera versatile in gastronomic combinations and suitable both for drinking young and after a short ageing period. A good example of this is this Morosa, aged exclusively in stainless steel tanks. It has an intense and clear ruby red colour, with hints of red fruits such as blackberries and blackcurrants, followed by delicate balsamic notes of eucalyptus, and a spiciness reminiscent of black pepper, then nutmeg and bay leaf. In the mouth it is above all fresh and velvety, with light tannins and a persistent finish of liquorice and spices. Suitable for a wide range of combinations, it goes particularly well with important first courses, such as pasta with meat sauces, grilled meats and aged cheeses. It is also an ideal accompaniment for ‘bagna cauda’, a traditional Piedmontese dish made with anchovies, garlic and oil. Its acidity perfectly balances the richness of these dishes, enhancing the flavours without overpowering them.
