On the label of this interesting Romagna wine is a picture of an Azzeruolo, or Lazzeruolo, plant. A relative of the rose that in Romagna was once known as "pomo reale". Its peculiarity is that in spring it loads itself with a thick canopy of very white and very fragrant flowers and in late summer, early autumn, it fills itself with vermilion red fruits with a sweet, tasty and crunchy pulp. Near the winery, at the Tower of Oriolo, there is the oldest Azzeruolo in Romagna. The wine, a Romagna DOCG Albana Secco, comes from the Romagna grape variety par excellence. A wine with a strong personality that was the first white wine to obtain DOCG status, in 1987. Vinified in steel and aged, again in steel for 5 or 6 months before bottling, this Albana has a straw yellow colour with golden highlights. The nose is intense, with a rich complex bouquet, with pleasant fragrances of honey, pear and tropical fruits, such as banana, mango and pineapple. In the mouth it is fresh, thanks to good acidity, but above all well balanced. The long finish is reminiscent of hazelnut and vanilla.
Podere La Berta is located in Brisighella, on a hill overlooking the sea, amidst gullies, vineyards, pines and olive trees. A winery on a human scale that believes in craftsmanship, authenticity and the power of nature. Since 2009, the Poggiali family has taken over responsibility for a journey that began in the 1970s and has begun a process of unconditional recovery, combining the vocation of the land with vision and great attention to quality. From the hills of the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines, Podere La Berta overlooks the Lamone Valley. Twenty-two hectares of land rich in clay, which preserves and hands down the signs of human presence and gives the wine its special character, infusing the breath of nature into the intense red and golden white of the grapes. Only autochthonous vines are grown. Sangiovese, in particular, but also Albana, Trebbiano and the traditional Pagadebit.
