Castello di Neive - Azienda Agricola Neive - Corso Romano Scagliola 205 12052 Neive - Italy
Moscato d'Asti - we are not the ones to say this but it is the idea of many experts in the field - is the world's greatest dessert wine. The one proposed here by Castello di Neive, in particular, is the result of a careful selection of grapes from different vineyards. A blend made to be extremely balanced and pleasant. A fresh and naturally young white, this wine is made from 100% Muscat grapes, processed according to tradition with an initial super-soft pressing to obtain a must that is naturally rich in primary aromas. The must is then subjected to flotation and, after clarification, without chemical clarifiers, is filtered and cooled to keep the beautiful aromatic framework naturally intact. Straw yellow colour with greenish highlights. The nose is extremely inviting, with notes of fresh fruit and citrus fruits. Intense and persistent, it calls to the palate the soft, fresh aromas of yellow peach and sage. It is, as mentioned above, the King of Piedmontese sweet wines, a perfect companion for fresh desserts, fruit cakes and, for lovers of special pairings, also suitable to accompany platters of fresh cheeses.
The Azienda agricola Castello di Neive was founded in the early 1960s by engineer Italo Stupino. It is a beautiful business that is deeply tied to its territory and boasts a property of about 60 hectares, 27 of which are vineyards. A traditional winery, with great attention paid to the care of all transformation processes. The fermentation of the wines, in particular, takes place in modern cellars equipped with all the technology needed to monitor every step to the best of their ability. At the end of the transformation, then, the wines rest in barrels and barriques for the delicate phase of maturation. These are housed within the walls of the castle cellars. A historic place, where the oenologist Louis Oudart began the production of a dry wine, 'Neive', based on Nebbiolo, with which he won a gold medal at the London Exhibition of 1862.
