The typical austerity of Aglianico. The richness of its body and the important tannic texture. All this can be found inside this beautiful bottle proposed by Monserrato 1973. Grapes from one of the estate's oldest parcels. This wine only comes from hand-selected bunches and only in the best vintages. Marketed two years after the harvest, its processing begins with a light destemming, followed by the crushing of the undamaged grapes. Then maceration of the must in stainless steel tanks and alcoholic fermentation. After about 15 days, racking, decanting and malolactic fermentation take place, again in stainless steel. At the end of the transformation, the wine matures partly in a steel tank and partly in large Slavonian oak casks. It takes about 18 months to reach the right level of maturity. The wine is then bottled and refined in the bottle for at least 6 months. Bright ruby red, the nose has hints of morello cherry, black pepper, liquorice and tobacco. Austere and rightly tannic, it is classic Aglianico and honours Campania's most famous black grape variety. Good right from the start, it certainly does not fear ageing a few years in the cellar. We will always find it ready to accompany red meat dishes with pleasure. Also indicated with the most savoury game.
The Monserrato winery was born in 1973 from an intuition of Cavalier Francesco Zecchina, a Neapolitan builder and wine enthusiast. It was his passion that convinced him to invest in an area of his Campania particularly suited to quality wine growing, buying land in the hills around Benevento, at the foot of Monte Serrato. Here he fixed up a ruin dating back to the 1962 Irpinia earthquake and, with the help of a young friend and farmer, began planting vines, tobacco and olive trees. After a period of transition, the farm is now run by Francesco's daughter Paola and his son Lucio. Currently, three oil labels and a line of six local wines are produced from the farm's olive groves and vineyards.
