Chateau Lynch Moussas
Pauillac is a controlled designation of origin, the French AOC, located in the Bordeaux region. It is one of the most prestigious and renowned production areas in the world, famous for the extreme quality of its red wines. We are located on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, in the northern part of the Médoc region. The area of Pauillac is surrounded by the communes of Saint-Julien and Saint-Estèphe, with which it shares (in part) the nature of the soils, mainly composed of deep gravel, particularly suited to the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon, which, not surprisingly, is the predominant variety in the area. It is worth noting that among the most famous estates in Pauillac are names such as Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour and Château Mouton Rothschild, whose wines are considered among the most valuable and expensive in the world. Château Lynch-Moussas, with its more than 60 hectares, is among the protagonists of this area. The red proposed here comes from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon for 72% and Merlot for the remainder. In the glass it has a beautiful intense red colour, with garnet hues. On the nose, the aromas are classic for a Bordeaux of this level, with black and red currants, mushrooms and black truffles. In the mouth it is pleasantly (and rightly) full-bodied, with ripe, well velvety tannins. The finish is long and soft. A decidedly well-made wine. A must-try to discover how enjoyable a red wine from the Pauillac region can be.
We are on the left bank of the Garonne, in the heart of the Bordeaux region. French yes, but of Irish origin, as part of the name of this château reveals. We are talking about Château Lynch-Moussas, a fine Bordeaux establishment dating back to the 18th century. Sixty-two hectares in total, about 75% of the vineyard is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. With him, of course, the ever-present Merlot. At the beginning of the 20th century, the property passed to the Castéja family, who already owned several plots in Pauillac. Since 1970, the property has been managed directly by Emile Castéja, who was succeeded in 2001 by his son Philippe.
