Azienda Agricola Bosco De' Medici- via Antonio Segni, 42- 80045 Pompei (Na)
A wine that is simply unique, starting with its denomination of origin, which is not exactly common. It is, in fact, a Pompeii Bianco IGT. Pompeii di Bosco de' Medici is a wine born of the profound symbiosis between the volcanic soil of Vesuvius and the native Caprettone vine. The production area extends between 230 and 250 metres above sea level, with a south-south-east exposure that guarantees excellent exposure throughout the entire vegetative cycle of the vines. The volcanic-sandy soils typical of this area are the result of the numerous eruptions of Vesuvius, which over the centuries have deposited layers of minerals rich in iron, potassium, phosphorous and silica. Caprettone, indigenous to Campania, is a little-known grape variety but one with enormous potential. In this case, it is cultivated using the ‘piede franco’ method, thanks to the sandy soil, which is naturally resistant to phylloxera. Harvested by hand at the end of September, after picking the whole grapes are subjected to a direct pressing, followed by a 10-day skin maceration. After fermentation, the wine then matures for about 9 months in stainless steel tanks. To the eye Pompeii presents itself with fascinating golden hues. Intense scents of ripe apricot and broom flowers emerge on the nose, combined with a subtle mineral note, typical of wines born on volcanic soils. In the mouth, thanks to maceration, a round and soft texture is revealed, which well balances the wine's savouriness and slight mineral roughness. Perfect with fresh or medium-aged cheeses, it also goes well with fish dishes. An interesting pairing is with traditional Campania soups, such as Cicerale chickpea soup or Controne beans.
The Azienda Agricola Bosco De' Medici was born from the fortunate meeting of two families, Palomba and Monaco. A project handed down from generation to generation. Founded in 1996 by Gaetano Palomba and Franco Monaco, this company has deep roots dating back to the 1970s, when grandfather Raffaele, moved by a genuine passion for the land and viticulture, bought the first vineyard on Vesuvius. Today, the company is located within the Vesuvius National Park, a privileged position, immersed in a breathtaking landscape that embraces the Gulf of Naples as far as the Sorrento Coast. The vineyards, facing south and south-east at an altitude between 250 and 300 metres above sea level, benefit from a perfect combination of climatic and environmental factors. In the countryside, only indigenous varieties, representative of the territory, are grown. From Piedirosso to Aglianico, from Caprettone to Falanghina. A strict organic protocol is followed and the vines, some of which are over 100 years old, produce grapes of the highest quality.
