  • Sensations Lots of olfactory complexity of yellow spices and ripe fruits, but what comes out most is liquorice, mint, and medicinal herbs. The mineral note typical of wines from the volcano. The wine has a pale white colour and good consistency. In the mouth it is fresh and ample, endowed with a good sapidity.
  • Vinification The grapes are harvested by hand, in small crates, by a team of expert local women.     "A Nutturna" Nerello Mascalese IGT in white 2022
  • As proof of the great versatility of Nerello Mascalese, this A nutturna of Al-Cantàra is the son of the noble Etnean vine, vinified in white. Its processing begins with a hand harvest, with the grapes collected in small crates so as not to damage the berries, by a team of experienced local women. Once in the winery, the grapes are destemmed, gently crushed and placed in a closed soft press "inerted" with neutral gas, to extract and separate the must flower. Then, after decanting for about 24 hours, the fermentation phase begins at a controlled temperature. This is then a period of refinement on its fine lees, for 4 - 8 months, in steel tanks. The result is a wine with a great olfactory complexity, with notes that recall spices and ripe fruit. In particular, liquorice, mint and medicinal herbs are recognized. The mineral note, typical of wines from the volcano, is very present.

    Al-Cantàra was born from the happy intuition that a good wine is "poetry" and to make it you need "art" - as you can read on the winery's website. It is no coincidence that all the wines produced have names of poems by Sicilian authors and the labels reflect the works of two young painters from Catania. We're in the heart of Sicily. In a corner of paradise that is located exactly in contrada Feudo S. Anastasia in the municipality of Randazzo, 620 metres above sea level. The summit of Mount Etna, not far away, watches over the vineyards and the winery from above. The name Al-Cantàra comes from the river that flows at the foot of the volcano. Although young, the company was officially opened in 2005, has already established itself nationally and internationally thanks to the high quality of its wines, awarded by food and wine critics. Today the company can count on a total of 20 hectares of land, of which about 15 hectares are planted with vines. And among these about 4 are historical, over 60 years old, with a thousand prephylloxera strains. Total production, mostly under the hat of DOC Etna, is about 100 thousand bottles per year. Once again tradition and innovation go hand in hand under the blue sky of Sicily.
