Potrero Reserva is a 100% Pinot Noir from a very special terroir, that of Gualtallary, in the heart of Argentina. We are in the Mendoza region, and Gualtallary is an area where temperatures average lower than in the rest of the region. This results in a beneficial temperature range between day and night that positively affects the physiology of the plant. The grapes harvested here give very concentrated wines while maintaining natural levels of acidity and good fruit. This Pinot Noir, in particular, comes from careful cellar processing involving traditional fermentation in stainless steel tanks, with a percentage of whole clusters and the use of only indigenous yeasts. For the maturation phase, after vinification is complete, the wine is placed in second- and third-passage French oak barrels, where it rests for no less than six months. Described as a sensual and elegant wine, on the nose it is easy to discern the typical notes of the grape variety, with small fresh red fruits in good evidence. In the mouth it is well balanced, with a long, delicately spiced finish.
It all started in 2008 when two friends bought their first vineyard. Thus was born Vinos de Potrero, which officially debuted on the market in 2012 with its first label. Since then the company has grown to become an interesting entity in Argentina, with several clients in other parts of the world as well. All grapes for Vinos de Potrero come from vineyards in Gualtallary, Uco Valley. Today the winery has four small neighboring vineyards with similar, though not identical, soil profiles and exposure. Malbec grapes are produced here, which with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc are used in the production of the estate wines. A curiosity: the "potrero" in Argentina is a makeshift soccer field, one where world-class talents are not infrequently raised. Just as from a dry, pothole-filled field a star can be born that will shine in the greatest stages of the world, so from poor, stony soil, the vine can give birth to wines that are extraordinary in their concentration, freshness and minerality.
