    89 Points

This is a pure expression of the little-known Torbato grape that is partially fermented and aged in barrique (or just 15% of the total is). I usually find that Torbato delivers reductive aromas of flint and has a dusty taste. But the  Alghero Torbato Cuvée 161 Terre Bianche shows a lot of expressive tones with orchard and tropical fruit instead. Peach and pear transition to crushed stone and sweet almond, creating a nice white to serve with raw oysters or cherrystone clams on the half shell.

    92 Points

Reductive at first, so give this time to open up. When it does, it reveals dried citrus, daffodils and apricots. Sleek and linear on the palate, where the acidity cuts through fleshy stone fruit and drives this quite long. Drink now.

    87 Points

Lemon curd, lime blossom and pear notes are fresh and aromatic in this snappy, stony white. Light-bodied, open-knit and easy-drinking. Drink now.

"Terre Bianche Cuvée 161" Torbato Alghero DOC
    • Cuvée 161 represents the highest expression of the Torbato grape variety in the Sella & Mosca range. A pleasantly modern wine that comes from a careful processing of this ancient grape variety. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, except for a portion, about 15%, which is fermented in oak barriques. Same process for the refinement phase. Most of the wine, in fact, remains in steel, in contact with its own yeasts, for a period of about 6 months. 15% of the mass, however, is aged in barriques. The result is a wine characterized by a bright yellow colour, with evident golden hues. On the nose, scents of Mediterranean scrub, thistle and medicinal herbs. Fresh flowers and ripe fruit, however, are easily recognizable on the palate, with a slight spicy tone and strong mineral traits. Soft on the entry, savory, almost brackish, it proves to be a well-balanced wine, thanks also to a nice acidity that balances with the alcohol and structure.

If you think of the Sardinia of wine you cannot in any case overlook its most famous brand in the world. We are talking, of course, about Sella Mosca. For over a century, Sella Mosca has been the symbol of Sardinian quality viticulture, and a reference brand for millions of wine lovers who, after experiencing a dream holiday, rediscover a bit of that magic, thanks to its wines, once back in their own cities. What few people know, however, is that the Sardinian winery actually has Piedmontese origins. In fact, engineer Sella and lawyer Mosca were born in Sabaudia and it is to them that we owe the merit of having started the reclamation works and the planting of the first vineyards of the company. Today Sella Mosca can count on more than 540 hectares of vineyards, managed with rigour and competence by a team of expert agronomists. The grapes are processed in a modern winery, equipped with all the latest technology, giving rise to wines of great personality and with deep ties with the territory. Since December 2015, Sella Mosca has been part of the galaxy of companies belonging to the Terra Moretti Group.
